Olivier Marin, violist and composer, is an eclectic musician who regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician or composer at festivals around the world where he presents original recitals combining classical, contemporary and world music. His latest composition, Undō, for viola, electronics and video, has been selected for presentation at the International Viola Congress in the Netherlands in 2018, the New York City Electroacoustic Festival (USA), the Noisefloor Festival (UK) and the Code d’accès Montréal festival (Canada).

History.
« Within the orchestra It’s raining strings, a terrible drama has happened! Our ill-fated conductor Umbert Di Draculano was abandoned and betrayed by his musicians during a concert at the Grande Scala Philarmonica Del’ Unica Prestissima Musica.

His symphony known as the « Symphony of Atlantis » sank into an unspeakable cacophony.

Disappointed, the audience covered our poor conductor with tomatoes and other makeshift rubbish. It goes without saying that the reputation of our dear maestro is forever tarnished! A photo of him thus shown is in
front page of the largest newspapers.
But our conductor is not fooled, he knows that some musicians in the orchestra have deliberately made a mistake to play this trick on him! In a fit of rage, he broke his baton! He swore that he would not go back on stage until he had found the lectern responsible for this disaster! So, get ready… get ready to play in your defence…! »

A theatrical-musical show which was a great success with the public and the jurors, realised within the framework of my DE with the formidable viola class of Vinciane Béranger, professor at the conservatory of the 6th arrondissement of Paris.

SCENARIO

SYNOPSIS

Creation inspired by a « Kata » which is a Japanese term designating a form in the martial arts. These are codified movements based on the experience of fighters. Even if the objective of the gesture remains martial, a certain musical energy, concentrated and precise, flows from the movements and sublimates them. Here he interprets the kata « Empi » called « de l’hirondelle ».

This text by Flora Bourne-Chastel, inspired by a real fact, refers to the nuclear tests carried out on an island in the Pacific Ocean called Mururoa . The music was created from this text without the use of digital sounds; most of the sound effects are recorded from the viola, djembe, voice and guitar.

In the year 1300, in Granada, in the gardens of the Alhambra, horsemen tried to seduce a Moorish princess leaning against a fountain. Weary of their manners, she laughed at them and made fun of their supposed heroic deeds. The latter, furious, go back to the horizon, swallowing their pride.
